In an exciting new collaborative relationship, The Sydney Conservatorium of Music partners with the National Institute of Dramatic Art technical production and stage management teams, to present Benjamin Britten’s iconic opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Performed at NIDA’S state-of-the-art Parade Theatre in a series of performances in December, this magical opera breathes new life into Shakespeare’s most loved comedy. Directed by renowned Australian director Kate Gaul and starring SCM’s emerging opera and orchestral talent, we are incredibly proud to co-present this beautiful and lively work – the first major Sydney production opening to the public since lockdown. A true celebration!

Britten’s magical opera breathes new life into Shakespeare’s most loved comedy.

When the King of the Fairies quarrels with his Queen, he orders his servant, a mischievous sprite, to play a prank on her – resulting in mistaken identities, confused lovers and a startling transformation.

From the sliding strings of the magic wood to the rustics’ well-intentioned entertainment, Britten’s ear for beguiling orchestration and melodic invention will transport you to the confusion, hilarity and eerie beauty of this midsummer night’s dream world.
