The name ab [intra] means “from within” in Latin, and Rafael Bonachela’s 75-minute work, which premiered in 2018, does indeed sweep you a beautiful, almost otherworldly place. Sydney Dance Company recently performed it on a sold-out French tour. Now the electrifying work has a return Sydney season. Performed to ambient electronic music by Nick Wales and a lush cello concerto by Pēteris Vasks, ab [intra] is a ferociously physical yet heartfelt work.

Exploring our primal instincts, our impulses and our visceral responses, ab [intra] is a journey through the intensity of human existence that will command your attention.
The music fuses lush cello with ambient electronica and the exquisite dancers occupy a visually arresting ethereal world.
This is a ferociously physical and emotional piece which will stay with you long after you leave the theatre.
