: Grand Organ Master Series presents Paul Taylor at St Kilian’s Church Bendigo
3 July @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEST
Paul Taylor plays the historic 1872 Randebrock Organ at St Kilian’s Church in Bendigo.
Paul Taylor is Director of Music and Organist at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo and was previously Director of Music at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne.
Whilst a student at St Kilian’s Primary School (1973-1979), one of Paul’s earliest inspirations for learning the pipe organ was hearing the then Organist from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Mrs Masie Evans (1959-1980) play the St Kilian’s pipe organ whilst he and other members of his family were altar servers at the Sunday evening Mass.
Following initial studies in piano with Isola Harvey and Nancy Sworder, and studies in organ with John Hogan [Organist and Director of Music at Sacred Heart (1980-2020], Paul majored in organ at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne, studying with Geoffrey Cox.
Paul completed a Master of Arts degree, specialising in liturgy, at the University of Notre Dame, IN, USA and his later Master of Music degree (2000) at ACU featured a recital of the eighteen “Leipzig” chorale preludes of J. S. Bach. In 2010, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree directed by Dianne Gome at ACU with a dissertation on liturgical chant.
