Sydney Opera House: Lighting of the Sails: Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground by the Martu Artists and Curiious
28 May @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm AEST

The breathtaking Lighting of the Sails returns for Vivid Sydney in 2022 in its most spectacular incarnation yet.
Two years in the making, a stunning new digital artwork, Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground, 2021, created by the Martumili Artists, eight female artists from the Pilbara, and Sydney-based creative technologists Curiious, will transform the Sydney Opera House sails, bringing to life the vibrancy, energy and rich storytelling of the Martu and their intimate connection with Country: cataloguing seasons, traditional burning practices and cycles of regrowth, hunting and vital natural resources, as well as abstracted ancestral stories.
The work will be soundtracked by a composition by Electric Fields’ Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross featuring the vocals of the Martu Artists, as well as the voices of Antara singers from Zaachariaha’s Anangu community. Extending First Nations stories onto the country’s most iconic canvas, it’s a history-making celebration you won’t want to miss.
