: The Lost Art of Listening

6 May @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm AEST

Composer and musician Hilary Kleinig has been investigating how people experience and value music in an age of 24-hour connectedness and distraction. The research has formed the starting point for new work for piano and audience-played smartphone choir called The Lost Art of Listening, partly inspired by an article by Anna Goldsworthy of the same name, but also questioning how humanity’s increasing reliance on connected technology has affected the nature of listening and performing, our distraction and attention, our passive and/or active involvement and our sense of occupation/dislocation.

For her inSPACE development Hilary is working together with Brisbane-based pianist and composer Erik Griswold.
