West Australian Opera: The Marriage of Figaro
28 October @ 7:30 pm - 9:50 pm AWST
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, repeating until 30 October 2021
Australia’s strictest border controls means the WA Opera is (hopefully) still able to mount live opera in 2021, in this case Mozart’s perennial favourite. A romantic comedy laced with upstairs downstairs amorous intrigues, it contains many of his greatest hits. Christopher van Tuinen conducts the West Australia Symphony Orchestra and WA Opera Chorus in Patrick Nolan’s production, which stars Jeremy Kleeman as Figaro and Prudence Sanders as his fiancée Susanna. Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Lisa Harper-Brown sing the Count and Countess Almaviva, with Amy Yarham as the oversexed page Cherubino, and Robert Hofmann and Nicole Youl as Doctor Bartolo and his wife Marcellina.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
A comedy of servants and masters changing places, pageboys playing at soldiers, ruined flowerbeds and nighttime trysts form the backdrop to some of the most beautiful music ever written. This work celebrates one idea, that true love is life’s most valuable gift and should be nurtured, cherished and fought for. Mozart’s masterpiece picks up the story sometime after the events of The Barber of Seville and this time it is Figaro’s turn to find love, however his fiancé, Susanna, is being pursued by the Count, much to the dismay of the Countess Rosina. This is a work of charm, wit and beauty, presented in a new production, directed by Patrick Nolan and conducted by Christopher van Tuinen.
