February was a bumper month for new releases, and March seems to be continuing that trend. So, this month we’re jumping into some great new releases from the previous month, albums I missed during 2020, and a few new composers for the Australian Art Music playlist.

As always, while streaming is a great way to discover music – do consider purchasing or otherwise support those who make the music you love – we even have a Merch Table link to help!

The long-awaited recording of Jessica Wells’ The Night Parrot has finally been released, documenting the endangered species’ history. I’ve selected the movement Predator which shows off Morgan England-Jones and the Acacia Quartet’s expressiveness and absolute precision – definitely recommend the full album.

Continuing this theme, we have Yuwaalaraay composer and author Nardi Simpson’s Of Star and Birds performed by Ensemble Offspring. The work alternates between absolute clarity and precision to gorgeous washes of colour lead by the vibraphone – the juxtaposition creates a wonderful effect of floating and drifting through an open sky.
