Arts organisations around the world have been stopped in their tracks by the latest Internet fad, here are our favourites.

German opera company Bayerische Staatsoper is the latest classical music organisation to embrace the internet’s latest fad, the Mannequin Challenge, with a video featuring the cast of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro frozen in place. For those unfamiliar with the challenge, which follows in the footsteps of Planking in 2010 and the Ice Bucket Challenge in 2012, The Mannequin Challenge involves a group of people freezing in place – mannequin-like – while a camera moves among them, capturing their poses. Mannequin Challenge videos typically feature Rae Sremmurd’s Black Beatles, but who can resist Mozart?

Opera Australia have jumped on the bandwagon with this video promoting their Ring cycle in Melbourne.

The Oregon Symphony Orchestra have joined the party, using the traditional #MannequinChallenge soundtrack.

Not to be outdone, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra have created their own Mannequin Challenge video, complete with frozen trumpet mute drop!

But as the English National Opera demonstrate, Tchaikvosky’s The Nutcracker featured a Mannequin Challenge long before it was cool.
