After being postponed twice due to the pandemic, new dates have been announced for Opera Australia’s Brisbane Ring Cycle. Originally scheduled to open in November 2020, the fully digital production, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng, will have three cycles at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in December 2023. Philippe Auguin will conduct, with German tenor Stefan Vinke as Siegfried and American soprano Lise Lindstrom as Brünnhilde in the first two cycles. Australian bass-baritone Daniel Sumegi will make his role debut as Wotan, while Anna-Louise Cole will debut as Brünnhilde in the third cycle, after playing Sieglinde in the first two.

Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre has announced the inaugural Tracey Trinder Playwright’s Award for an unproduced comedy or comedy drama written by a woman playwright including a trans and/or gender-diverse playwright. The award consists of a $7,500 prize, a development workshop and a full production as part of Ensemble Theatre’s annual season. Applications open in early 2022.

“Tracey was a stage and screenwriter and had a unique voice in the world of comedy. This award honours her name and her commitment to women’s writing,” said Ensemble Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry.
