The Waterphone
When Claire Edwardes first discovered this weird and wonderful instrument in Holland she thought it might be rather one-dimensional, but in fact, she has discovered it is full of sonic possibilities.
I play and specialise in a large array of instruments as a professional percussionist, but the one I would like to highlight here is my waterphone. ‘Water’ because it’s designed and made by a guy whose name is Waters, as well as the fact that you pour water into it to change the pitch. And ‘phone’ because it is an idiophone – an instrument which vibrates when struck or sounded.
