The 23-year-old guitarist from Canberra has just won one of Europe’s most prestigious prizes. We take a look at his future plans.

Campbell Diamond took up classical guitar at the relatively late age of 17, but just six years on, he’s the most recent winner of the prestigious Aachener Gitarrenpreis competition in Germany. It’s the latest accolade for the young guitarist currently studying in Cologne at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. We talked with him about the world of classical guitar and his plans for the future.

Congratulations on your recent win at the Aachener Gitarrenpreis in Germany! How did it feel to win such a prestigious competition?

Thank you very much! Of course it was an amazing experience. It is a very important step in my career – it really helps confirm that I am on the right path in what I am doing at the moment. It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least, as there was such a large field of talented participants – guitarists studying at all the major schools in Germany, Holland, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium.
