On 11 February, 3MBS embarks on its annual Marathon. Loading up Melbourne Recital Centre with more than 60 musicians, this year’s event packs seven concerts into 10 hours, with each concert incorporating a work performed during the marathon’s own history.

With the departure of Chris Howlett after 10 years of running the Marathon, violinist Wilma Smith steps up as Artistic Director for this year’s event.  Titled Together, her curation brings Classical and Romantic master works together with Greek, Balkan and Spanish songs, structured improvisation and exclusive collaborations in what will be a rich display of Melbourne’s musical heart.

Sitting down with Limelight, Smith discussed her curatorial ambitions and some of her personal highlights of this year’s Marathon.
