Actor Judi Farr, whose career in Australian film, television and theatre spanned half a century, has died.

Equally at home in TV comedy and theatrical tragedy, Farr gave many memorable performances. She played Linda Loman in Death of a Salesman opposite Warren Mitchell and Mel Gibson for Nimrod.

She featured in Angels in America, The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Women of Troy for Sydney Theatre Company, winning a 1992 Theatre Critics Award for the latter. More recently, she was Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple in A Murder is Announced.

Farr also made a mark in popular TV comedies including Kingswood Country, Mother and Son and Please Like Me, and in films such as The Year My Voice Broke (1987), Flirting (1991) and Oscar and Lucinda (1997).

Farr was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sydney Theatre Awards in 2016 in recognition of career that saw her perform with most of Australia’s major theatre companies.
