The Australian Music Centre has revealed that development has begun on a new audio library. In partnership with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and ABC Classic, the library will open up access to past and contemporary works by Australian composers across all fields, to traditional scored works as well as electronic and sound art and improvised music.

Called a “crucial tool” in allowing Australian music “to be heard, enjoyed, studied and understood” by AMC CEO Catherine Haridy, the on-demand library is to be made available for AMC members and will also include the supporting material for works it hosts.

A part of the AMC’s current push in creating a comprehensive digital archive, the library is a move to creating greater domestic and international points of entry into Australian music across a broad spectrum of genres and mediums, and is poised as a resource for musical educators, students, researchers and musicians across the country.
