The Australian Women in Music Awards has been nominated for an award as part of the 2021 Music Cities Awards, designed to acknowledge cities that are using music as a vehicle for economic, social, environmental and cultural development.

AWMA has been nominated at the 2021 Music Cities Awards.

The AWMA has been nominated as one of three finalists in the category of Best Initiative to Support Diversity and Inclusion in Music. Established in Brisbane in 2018, AWMA recognises the value and contributions of women in the Australian music industry, and attempts to address the chronic gender inequality in every corner of the industry – an issue in an especially harsh spotlight at the moment, as the industry attempts to grapple with the fallout from the ABC’s investigation into the workplace bullying and harassment at Sony Music Australia under former Chairman and CEO Denis Handlin, who was also for many years Chairman of the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
