Monica Buckland has been appointed Bel a cappella’s next Musical DirectorShe succeeds Anthony Pasquill, who has held the post for almost 14 years.

Working for 30 years as a professional conductor in Europe, the UK, USA and Australia, Buckland brings experience as well as passion to the Sydney-based ensemble founded by members of Sydney University Musical Society in 1995. The choir has an extensive repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to 20th century music. 

Buckland was previously the musical director of Ars Cantata Zurich for 16 years and has directed a number of professional and amateur choirs. Buckland’s conducting and educating experience has seen her conducting orchestras, choirs, operas and ensembles. In Europe, she directed the orchestras at TU Dresden and was named ITV’s Woman of the Year for North-East England for her work with the New Tyneside Orchestra. 

Buckland now lives in Sydney, where she recently conducted the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s concert for schools. Buckland is currently Musical Director of the Balmain Sinfonia, Sydney and is the Adjunct Lecturer in the conducting course at the...
