Australia’s most popular tourist attraction and the surrounding areas have been evacuated by NSW Police.

UPDATE: Police operation at Sydney Opera House has concluded.

A NSW Police statement has just been issued saying: “Following information on social media, police conducted an operation in the vicinity of the Opera House and Manly as a precautionary measure. That police operation has now concluded.”

The Sydney Opera House precinct has been evacuated by police this afternoon, although the reason for clearing the area remains unknown. There are also reports that ferries from Circular Quay to Manly have been suspended. A statement from NSW Police confirmed a police operation was underway but was unable to provide any further details at this time.

Aerial images of the area show the Sydney Opera House, one of Australia’s most visited landmarks, completely devoid of people.

We will be bringing you updates on the situation as they arrive.
