Italian soprano Fausta Truffa has become a sensation after her performance of La Vergine Deli Angeli went viral.

An elderly soprano has become an Internet sensation after a video of her performance of La Vergine Degli Angeli from Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino went viral. Fausta Truffa sings with a passion and virtuosity that belies her age, and her performance has now been viewed over two million times.

The video, which was posted on Facebook, comes from a performance by Ensemble Coro di Torino and Coro Arcai Rai that took place in the Chiesa di Sant’Alfonso in Turin, Italy, conducted by Riccardo Berruto. However, it is Truffa’s singing that has stunned the Internet. This isn’t the first time she has performed the aria with the choirs, having sung Vergine Degli Angeli in a concert of Verdi works last year.

While there has been much speculation online as to her age, it is not, of course, listed on the choir Facebook page. However, there is a Fausta Truffa credited as one of a chorus of three for the 1996 premiere recording of Erik Satie’s Geneviève de Brabant featuring Italian soprano Mariella Devia in the title role. There is also a Fausta Truffa listed as a contralto on a 1979 CD of Schumann’s Manfred recorded in Rome. Whether these are the same singer remains unclear.

Whatever she might done in her previous career, she is now an Internet star and people all over the world have found inspiration in her remarkable performance.
