Sydney-based Ensemble Apex has built on its growing reputation for ambitious programming by announcing four new performances, making up a new Winter season for 2021. Performing across multiple venues, this is the first time that the group has received funding from the City of Sydney.

Founded by Sam Weller in 2016, the ensemble has proven itself over the last couple of years to be an ambitious group well worth watching. Making an impression with its striking blend of well-known, well-trodden classics alongside premiering new works, the group has built an enthusiastic fanbase within Sydney.

The first of their newly announced concerts is Euro X, to be performed in late July at Marrickville Town Hall with a shortened program to be given at City Recital Hall in early August as part of the venue’s A Little Lunch Music series. The first outing for Euro X features Sibelius’s Violin Concerto with violinist Harry Ward as soloist alongside a number of Australian debuts, including Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova’s Suite in the Old Style featuring violist soloist Dana Lee, and Russian composer Dmitri...
