The 2022 nominations for the annual Tony Awards, recognising achievement in Broadway productions, were announced last night by the Broadway League and American Theatre Wing. Australian actor Hugh Jackman received a nomination for his leading role in the revival of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man, currently playing at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York.

This is Jackman’s second nomination for Best Actor in a Musical, having won in 2004 for his performance as Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz. Jackman also received a special non-competitive Tony award in 2012 whilst performing in the concert production Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway.

Jackman’s was one of six nominations The Music Man received, alongside his co-star and fellow Tony-winner Sutton Foster who was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical. The revival itself, which was coldly received by critics when it opened in February this year, was nominated for Best Revival of a Musical.
