Rising Australian conductor Ingrid Martin has been awarded the prestigious Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship along with nine other international conductors. For the next six months, Martin will work with internationally renowned conductors including Marin Alsop, Leonard Slatkin, Simone Young and Barbara Hannigan. The ten conductors were selected from an entry pool of over 500 applicants.

The conducting fellowship is part of OAcademy, an America-based orchestral training program, and since it operates entirely online, Martin will have to work around the awkward time difference.

“I’m the only conductor from this part of the world, and the classes are scheduled for US Eastern time so the time zones are crazy. I have to be ready to give feedback to a soloist, explain an analysis to an entire orchestra or ask intelligent questions of my heroes at 3:00am in the morning!” said Martin.
