Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2022

Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra in Sydney’s north has announced the details of its 2022 season, the organisation’s 50th.

The orchestra was founded in 1971 by Chinese-Australian conductor Helen Quach under the patronage of Australian music icons Sir Charles Moses (former General Manager of the ABC), Rex Hobcroft, Sir Bernard Heinze and John Hopkins (all former Directors of the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music, now the Sydney Conservatorium), and aimed to provide opportunities for amateur musicians to receive professional instruction in performing orchestral music.

Today the orchestra draws its players from a pool of more than 100 musicians from across Sydney, and over the years has welcomed soloists such as Richard Tognetti, William Hennessy, Simon Tedeschi, Catherine Hewgill and Kees Boersma. In 2022 that tradition continues, with concerts featuring Sydney Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Andrew Haveron and acclaimed pianist Roger Woodward as soloists.

“KPO’s 2022 season is a musical banquet par excellence,” says Artistic Director & Conductor Paul Terracini. “I’m excited to be Artistic Director and conducting the KPO in its 50th Season.”
