Listening to an intimate concert in a glass-fronted pavilion that looks onto a huge sculpture park, with the glass doors open if the sun is shining, sounds like a pretty lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery is offering exactly that with a new series of afternoon soirées on the first Sunday of each month. Featuring musicians from across Victoria, the Sunday Soirées series begins on 6 March with the Eliza Shephard Duo, featuring the flautist and percussionist Alexander Meagher, and concludes on 4 September with the Stiletto Sisters.

Curated by Monica Curro, Assistant Principal Second Violin with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Co-Artistic Director of Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, the rest of the diverse line-up includes the Partridge String Quartet (Musica Viva’s 2022 FutureMakers) with pianist Stefan Cassomenos; violinist Sarah Curro; Evergreen Ensemble; and Wattleseed Ensemble.

Set on 16 hectares of  bush and landscaped gardens, McClelland can be found in Langwarrin, 55 kilometres southeast from the Melbourne CBD. It has over 100 outdoor sculptures by leading Australian artists and also exhibits work in its gallery spaces.
