The Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s chief conductor bags a nod in the world’s most revered music awards.

The nominees of the 58th annual Grammys were announced today, and as with previous years, an Aussie success story has found its way into the world’s most revered music awards. Artistic Director of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Nicholas Milton, has earned a nod in the Best Instrumental Solo category for his direction of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserlautern accompanying German pianist Joseph Moog, performing the Greig and Moszkowski Piano Concertos.

The disc, released by Onyx, has earned glowing critical laurels including a selection as Gramophone Magazine editor’s choice. Gramophone’s Bryce Morrison said of the disc, “Orchestra and conductor let their hair down and relish every bar of this delectable fin-desiècle virtuoso fling.” Geoffrey Norris of London’s The Daily Telegraph gave the record five stars, saying, “the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserlautern under Nicholas Milton contributes colour, verve and a spirit of its own.”

The winners of the 2016 Grammy Awards will be announced on February 15.
