Opera Australia and the Australian Ballet have slammed the NSW Government for a lack of offered compensation.

Opera Australia and the Australian Ballet have both spoken out publicly about the impact that next year’s temporary closure of the Sydney Opera House will have on their organisations, criticising the NSW government for not offering any compensation.

The Australian has reported that OA Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini sought $3 million from Arts Minister Troy Grant as compensation for loss of revenue during the $50 million upgrades to the Joan Sutherland Theatre. Planned to take place over seven months from next May, the OA and AB will have both have to perform elsewhere during that period. “There should have been a consideration for the loss of revenue, and there wasn’t,” Terracini told The Australian.
