Perth Symphony Orchestra has announced that mezzo-soprano Fiona Campbell has been appointed as its new Creative Director, taking over from the Orchestra’s founder Bourby Webster  on 18 January, 2023.

Expressing her delight at taking on the role, Campbell said, “I have greatly admired this adventurous and dynamic orchestra for many years and pay tribute to Bourby Webster in founding the organisation and charting a path, which has had a significant impact on the musical and wider arts ecology here in Western Australia. I am excited to work with CEO Catherine Henwood and the musicians, staff, board and stakeholders to build on the great foundations that have been laid.”

Campbell’s previous roles in arts administration include working as the WA State Manager for Musica Viva Australia from 2019 to 2022. From 2019 to 2021, she also served as the Artistic Director for the Government House Foundation of WA, an organisation hosting the annual Music on the Terrace concerts, and expanded its reach into jazz and dance. while also placing a focus on the inclusion of Indigenous artists.
