A tapestry of Australian Contemporary Classical Music will be woven in an exciting new nation-wide collaborative radio series, National Contemporary Landscapes.

Nine community radio stations from across the country have jumped aboard the project, spearheaded by 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne, to produce a 10 part radio series that brings local contemporary classical music scenes onto the national stage. The episodes will explore local perspectives and insights and feature recordings exclusively created for the series as well as interviews with musicians and composers. Crucially, the second episode is dedicated to Indigenous Australian musicians working in the contemporary classical genre, produced by 3 Kool N Deadly Melbourne.

Industry insiders and mucians alike are waxing lyrical about the initiative. “This important project addresses a specific need,” says John Davis of the Australian Music Centre. “It engages with a diverse range of creators who make music that reflects the aspirations and concerns of contemporary Australia. It enables us to highlight the relevance of this creative practice across the local, the regional, to the national contexts, and thereby provide for audiences a window into this important form of our cultural expression.”
