Twenty-two singers have made it to the quarter-final round of the 9th Elizabeth Connell Prize, the final of which takes place on 3 June in London’s Wigmore Hall.

The 22 sopranos and mezzos have been selected from the 172 singers from 41 countries who entered this year’s competition. Twelve will be chosen for the semi-final on 1 June, six of whom will then compete in the live-streamed final, accompanied by Richard Black on piano.

There are two Australian singers in the running: Italian-Australian dual citizen Rebecca Gulinello, a soprano who recently sang Mimi in Opera Australia’s La Bohème and Micaëla in the 2022 outdoor Carmen performed on Cockatoo Island, and NSW soprano Bronwyn Douglass.
