A new lecture series at the Sydney Opera House will offer a fascinating exploration of the creative process.

Behind every great work of art is a story, a struggle, a secret. Seeing the world through their own individual prism, every artist’s output is a crucible of personal experience, cultural commentary and creative release. A new series of lectures announced today by the Sydney Opera House seeks to lift the veil on the fascinating complexities at work beneath the surface of the arts. Culture Club, will feature conversations with leading artists, artistic directors and cultural leaders, offering various insights into the creative process.

Head of Talks and Ideas at the Sydney Opera House, Ann Mossop

Ann Mossop, Head of Talks and Ideas at the Sydney Opera House said of the series, “We want to give audiences a different perspective on what is happening, whether that is an insight into the work of an artist or a current debate. Some of the talks will relate to work that is performed here, but the series will also respond to the cultural scene more broadly. Culture Club is an opportunity to bring audiences into the life of the Opera House, it’s resident companies and the arts in Australia”

Among the planned talks on offer will Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini AM discussing the politics of arts criticism; Sydney Theatre Company director Sarah Goodes and Sydney University academic Annamarie Jagose discussing the historical resonances in Virginia Woolf’s meditation on gender, Orlando; Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Stephen Page will explore the ancient roots of storytelling; and artist John Olsen AO OBE speaks on the creation of his great ode to the Sydney harbour, captured in his famous mural in the Northern Foyer of the Joan Sutherland Theatre.

Full details of the talks and tickets can be found on the Sydney Opera House website.
