Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2022

Sydney Chamber Opera (SCO) has announced the details of its 2022 season, which will include the company’s European debut at the Holland Festival.

SCO also announced creative residencies for an entire team of creatives, who will create two new productions during the year. That team – director Imara Savage, designer Elizabeth Gadsby, lighting designer/director Alexander Berlage and filmmaker Mike Daly – were the people behind the company’s 2019 production of Kaija Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone for Sydney Festival, which Justine Nguyen called “a strong performance that does much to convince you of the work’s quality” in her Limelight review.

The first new production for the team in residence will be the world premiere of Antarctica by Australian composer Mary Finsterer and writer Tom Wright, a co-production between SCO and Dutch new music ensemble Asko|Schönberg which will premiere at the 2022 Holland Festival in June. Eleven Australian artists will travel to Amsterdam for the production, SCO’s European debut and a rare international co-production for an Australian opera.
