Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2023

Celebrating World Ballet Day, Rafael Bonachela has revealed he will continue as the Sydney Dance Company’s Artistic Director for a further five years. The announcement was made as he unveiled the company’s 2023 season, which includes the first performances at the Sydney Opera House in over a decade, and tours across Australia and overseas.

Bonachela describes the coming year as one of innovation, during which the boundaries of dance will be broken. He says, “2023 also marks my 15th year as Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company and I am beyond excited to share that I will continue in my commitment to the role of Artistic Director for another five years.”

Bonachela was appointed Artistic Director in 2009, only six months after having created his first commission for SDC titled 360°.
