The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has announced the first half of its 2022 season.
Acknowledging the ongoing uncertainty around COVID, and the unique situation faced by Tasmania in regards to the difficulties of traveling interstate, the orchestra has built the first half of its season around homegrown talent and the TSO’s own principal musicians, with five featuring as soloists. It’s a decision that will provide some certainty for subscribers and indeed the orchestra itself, and ensure that audiences will actually get to hear the artists and the repertoire they have signed up for.
The season kicks off in March, with the orchestra’s Concertmaster, Emma McGrath, front and centre as the soloist in Bruch’s Violin Concerto No 1. McGrath first performed this concert as soloist at just 14, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, so it is a piece she knows well.
