There was much excitement among the opera community when State Opera South Australia and Victorian Opera announced in November 2020 that they were to co-produce a semi-staged concert of the legendary Australian opera Voss in Melbourne and Adelaide in 2021.

Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty caused by the current COVID lockdowns, neither of the two concerts will now take place, at least not this year.

Victorian Opera announced in July that due to the extension of Victoria’s fifth lockdown, the Melbourne performance, scheduled for 4 August, had been cancelled. At that point VO was hoping to stream the Adelaide performance on 17 September.

Late on Friday 13 August, State Opera South Australia announced that it had postponed its September season to early 2022. As a result Voss is now scheduled for 7 May 2022, while Stuart Maunder’s new production of Britten’s chilling, ghostly opera The Turn of the Screw, based on Henry James’ gothic novel, has been rescheduled to 30 April – 6 May, 2022.
