To celebrate World Opera Day today, Victorian Opera has announced a new operatic adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol as part of it 2022 season, which will be announced in full on 9 November.

The opera will be a collaboration between composer Graeme Koehne and librettist Anna Goldsworthy. Koehne is one of Australia’s most respected composers, who has had past success in opera with his 1992 collaboration with Louis Nowra Love Burns, which was revived earlier this year by State Opera South Australia. This is the second time that writer Anna Goldsworthy has worked on a new opera for the Victorian Opera, having previously written the libretto for The Magic Pudding in 2013.
