An Italian gossip site has reported that superstar tenor Jonas Kaufmann is dating pop icon Madonna. The article, posted on the Dagospia website last week claims the Vouge singer, who at 56 is eleven years Kaufmann’s senior, was so taken by the tenor’s model looks that she invited him to duet with her on an upcoming album as a ruse to get closer to him.

Kaufmann announced that he had separated from his wife, mezzo-soprano Margarete Joswig, earlier this year on his website, and Madonna, who has had a series of toyboy relationships in the past few years since her split from former husband Guy Richie, is also currently single.

Allegedly, after Madonna’s initial approach about working with Kaufmann, the pair met at an exhibition by American photographic artist Christopher Makos in London and hit it off. Whether or not Jonas and Madge are really making beautiful music together is yet to be determined, but the bizarre story has so far been picked up by British and American media. If reports turn out to be true, Kaufmann might become the most unlikely “popera” singer of all time.
