When it comes to accomplished Baroque musicians, this country punches well above its weight, but it is thanks to Paul Dyer and his Australian Brandenburg Orchestra that we get to experience the pick of the exciting talent from overseas.

Already this year we have seen Canadian cellist Elinor Frey bring the house down with a mixture of Spanish and Italian fireworks. Next month, it’s the turn of Swiss-Iranian violinist-director Leila Schayegh to show us how she has been dazzling audiences around the world.

Now, for its latest tour, the ABO introduces us to the supremely gifted French violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte, who appears as Guest Director. Still only 27 and looking a little like a young Jean-Pierre Léaud in an early François Truffaut film, he has an easy, personable stage manner with a keen eye for the theatrical moment, as demonstrated in his tour, The Lover, which launched in Sydney on Friday night.
