The night is summery, the house is round and at this world premiere, the rabbit is purple. As an American accented voice announces the evening’s rules of engagement, we nervously try our own magic trick in the form of becoming invisible – there are murmurs of viewer participation. Our worry is unnecessary. Audience involvement – and there is plenty of it – will be entirely voluntary.

The disparate quintet who host this cornucopia of prestidigitation share a love of magic, and their unique forms of wizardry explore what it means for each to be a magician. For the most part, the stage connections to each other end there and the individual performances are held together by a thread that could be as tenuous as, say, the mention of a purple rabbit. Naming rights, bunny ears and a glimpse of a purple vibrator are about the extent of the leporid influence, but it is of little consequence. The troupe, mostly performing one at a time with stylised stage support from the others, are tight, confident and above all, very entertaining.
